DESCRIPTION:
The project was designed to cover the shortage of healthcare facilities in this area of Mashhad. The overall emphasis was the creation of a significant volume in this location as an urban element. In addition it was attempted to respond to all operational activities of a general hospital. The main idea of design was to reinforce the sense of hope and motivation for physical healing and increase life expectancy in patients thus the following elements was used to achieve this aim: the application of pure geometrical volumes, preservation and expansion green spaces and existing vegetation and finally strengthening the hope of recovery in patients by the maintenance of an old pine tree that lives in the middle of the site and part of the hospital building retreated due to respect for nature.
The overall goal of the plan was to limit the number of floors to maximum 3, to reduce construction costs and increase comfort for visitors. Service departments such as employee parking space, food preparation, sterilization, restaurant and coffee shop are located on the -1 floor, ground floor and +3 floor, while the original hospital spaces such as hospitalization, surgery, maternity and intensive care units are confined to the +1 and +2 floors. Other areas, such as diagnostic ward, emergency ward and clinic, are situated on the ground floor with easy access for public from the site.
The scope of access of different people within the hospital were divided into three groups and the area of access for each group, is highlighted in a particular color: 1.Nurses, doctors and hospital staff is highlighted by blue line, 2.patients path by red line, and 3.Visitors path is demonstrated by orange line. The main purpose of this, is to reduce the access of visitors to the main and sterile parts of the hospital which requires great deal of silence and infection control.
