MASHHAD

Architects House

2010

DESCRIPTION:

The identity crisis in contemporary urban places has been one of the basic issues of architecture and urbanization, and has been the subject of much attention since the second half of the twentieth century.

It has long been recognized that the sense of place is a key element of its residents' identity. This is due to the fact that humans are generally made in places, and these places regulate and direct human behavior. Beside by knowing the place, one can attain self-knowledge. Therefore, one major goal of this project was to create a place in which space users can develop the sense of place which is one of the most effective factors in environmental psychology. This effect is not straightforward, but -as a perceptual factor- can affect users by creating mental images and facilitating certain activities.

Unfortunately, in Iran, such comprehensive centers which can be a place of interest for architects and also an origin for introducing architecture to the public has not yet existed. Architects work in the same areas as artists and sometimes present their works or hold conferences in the same atmospheres. The lack of such centers have negative effects on interactions between people and architects, lagging the scientific and qualitative level of academic education beyond its standard in the world, as well as wasting many architectural talents.

The ultimate goal of the project was to find out about ways to develop a place that can provide meaningful life, as well as being able to do architectural activities. Therefor the overall emphasis was the creation of a place that makes a living space and that was the reason of titling the project as “THE ARCHITECTS HOUSE”.
